Looking for cozy winter cocktails for your Christmas brunch or sip while snuggling on the couch?
Today I’m sharing 5 of my favorite, easy winter cocktails from past episodes. Some are hot, some are cold. All are delicious with the warm spices and flavors of the season.
And if you need a breakdown on bubbly for your celebrations, be sure to check out the champagne primer I did on my “50 Best Organizing Tips from Professional Organizers & Champagne” episode to celebrate my 50th episode back in July.
PEPPERMINT SCHNAPPS SIPPING CHOCOLATE
From my episode “Goal Setting with Lori Cela & Kelly Beutler”, this adult hot chocolate is more like a dessert than a cocktail.
Makes 2-3 depending on glass size.
- 5 oz. dark chocolate ( I used a 72% dark bar), chopped
- 5 tsp. of cocoa
- 2 cups Milk, Half & Half, or dairy alternative
- 1 oz. Peppermint Schnapps
- 1 oz. Vanilla Vodka
- Optional: Whipped cream, crushed candy canes
Pour milk and cocoa in to pot and warm over medium until bubbles form on the edge. Remove from heat and pour into large glass measuring cup or bowl. Add chopped chocolate bar and stir until melted. Add schnapps and vodka and stir. Pour into serving cups and add more schnapps and vodka to taste. Top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes. Enjoy!
I featured this cocktail on the recent episode “How to Have a Minimalist-mas” with Diane Boden. It’s a simple twist on a traditional mimosa. And perfect for a holiday brunch.
Serves 1-2 depending on glass size
- 1/2 oz Orange Liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau)
- 3 oz Cranberry Juice
- 3 oz Champagne
- Fresh or Frozen Cranberries optional
- Rosemary Sprig optional
Rim champagne flute with sugar. Pour the orange liqueur and cranberry juice into the rimmed champagne flute. Top with champagne. Garnish with cranberries and sprig of rosemary (optional).
HOT BUTTERED RUM
From the episode “How to Host a Cookie Exchange”, this was a cocktail I thought “why haven’t I tried this sooner?!?” Rich, warm and super satisfying. The perfect snuggle down on a cold winter night cocktail!
- 2 tsp. Butter
- 1 tsp. Brown Sugar
- Dash of Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cloves, Ginger and/All Spice (depending on preference)
- 2 oz. Spiced Rum
- 5 oz. Hot (Not Boiling) Water
Mash butter, brown sugar and spices together into your butter batter. Return to the fridge to let flavors combine for 1-2 hours.
Add butter to glass and top with rum and hot water. Stir and enjoy! Cheers!
RED WINE MULES
I’m not gonna lie…when my guest Mary Cornetta suggested this for her episode “Goal Setting Tips with Mary Cornetta”, I was a little leary. Red wine and vodka just sounded like a hangover to me. But it was one of my favorite cocktails in 2019.

- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 can ginger beer

Divide wine, vodka, and lime juice between two glasses. Top with ice and ginger beer. Garnish with lime round and serve.
VIETNAMESE ICED COFFEE WITH SPICED RUM
And finally, we finish with this rich and creamy coffee cocktail from the episode “Balance for the WAHM”. A perfect way to use up that bottle of rum you bought to make the Hot Buttered Rum above. ?
- 5 oz. Cold Coffee
- 2 oz. Spiced Rum
- 1 T. Sweetened Condensed Milk
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Place all ingredients in the shaker and shake vigorously to blend. Strain over fresh ice. Enjoy!
